A trip to Canberra inspires Heywire winner

March 2020

Year 12 student, Jivaughn Coaby, has recently returned from a week-long leadership camp in Canberra. Over the week he undertook leadership workshops and met with members of parliament and community leaders. Jivaughn was invited to participate as a national winner of the 2019 ABC’s Heywire Competition. The competition provides a forum for young people to tell stories about their life outside the major cities in Australia. Jivaughn created his story to describe how he shifted his attitude towards education. It outlined what motivated him to change and how his life at school was transformed. Since returning to school Jivaughn has continued to share his story with younger male students at the school. He has also returned to his ATAR English and History classes to continue his exploration of life and its unique stories.
