Elephant Ear Wattle

Acacia Dunnii

Flowering and Fruiting: flowers throughout the year.

Elephant ear Wattle in flower. CC licence

This is an attractive ornamental wattle that was originally found in the northern Kimberley from Walcott Inlet (W.A.) to Victoria R. (N.T.), extending inland along the Ord River  Valley to Mabel Downs Station. It has also been found on some islands near the Kimberley coast.  It’s name reflects its very large leaves that set it apart from other acacia species. It grows up to 7M in height and has showy bright yellow globular flowers.

The plant  is now found across the whole region and is a popular garden plant as its bright fragrant flowers are great for attracting birds and butterflies.  It can flower throughout the year.
